The Role of CVBs

Convention and Visitor Bureaus (CVBs) are the most important link between local businesses and visitors to an area (usually referred to as a destination). Every time you see tourists shopping and sightseeing, a motor coach parked at an area attraction, a competitive sporting event taking place or a convention group staying at a local hotel, chances are a CVB has been behind the scenes helping to make it happen and working to make their visit a memorable experience. Bureaus provide free information and assistance to visitors about an area’s unique attractions, notable cultural activities, remarkable recreational facilities, great shopping opportunities and outstanding services. They also provide services and information to group tour planners, meeting planners and sporting event organizers

At the same time CVBs also provide a link between the local tourism industry and the West Virginia Division of Tourism. Bureaus are primarily marketing organizations that serve as the state’s local connection. Regular meetings between CVBs and state tourism personnel insure that this communication is effective and that each area of the state is properly represented.
